Transition 2010 – an all island gathering

Alex and the Transition Ireland and Northern Ireland crew are putting on the first all island gathering on the 13/14/15 August. It’s shaping up to be quite an event in a lovely venue so we recommend taking a look at the website for more information – here’s some of the blurb:
In my opinion, it is so important that at this time in our history we come together and co-operate. As a species we face enormous challenges that requires each of us to reach inside ourselves and bring out new talents and ways to communicate change with our fellow humans.
Transition may be a good vehicles for this, as an all inclusive movement based on finding positive solutions for everybody, starting in a small way in our own localities.
There are some who decry our attempts, who say we have not got the correct or perfect solution, but what I have to say to this is, let us try to find it together and bring all of us to the table for this conversation, so join us now !!
Transition is what we make it, so if you see something that needs to be addressed, come forward and address it.
All are welcome in this movement so please encourage everyone you know who is interested in becoming active in local sustainability and resilient community building to get involved with Transition and come to this gathering!
As a united network we can do more together than if we are we are working apart, we can bring real pressure to bear top down while we are busy acting locally, bottom up.
The Venue
We have secured a great venue, Gurteen Agricultural College, which gives us excellent facilities at a very reasonable cost.
We have at our disposal from Friday evening, 70 bedrooms, a lecture hall that seats 70, a 35 seater and a 25 seater classroom, a boardroom that seats 25, a TV lounge, a computer lab and broadband access.
They are also providing meals with the lodgings and have great recreational facilities too. A large indoor sports hall, a heated outdoor swiimng pool, hard tennis courts and basket ball court and green areas too.
All of this adds up to one great venue,and so what ever the weather is, we’ll be well catered for.
Location
We are in close proximity to ‘the village’ Irelands premier Ecovillage, currently under construction, and with a good community of folk already living in the Ecovillage and around Cloughjordan. They are running a successful CSA, and a visit to this farm may be organised if they is enough interest.
